Acts 27:23-25 - "There
stood by me this night an angel of the God whose I am, whom also I
serve, saying, 'Fear not, Paul; thou must stand before Caesar: and lo,
God hath granted thee all them that sail with thee.' Wherefore, sirs, be
of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even so as it hath
been spoken unto me."
A little boy asked his mother: "Mom what is fear like to you? because I have never seen him"
Paul might have said the same thing as much as this little boy because his life was hid with Christ in God, and Christ "in me." Paul had learned to listen to the voice of Christ. Most of us cannot do so because we need the practiced ear and submissive will. All through in his Christian life, Paul seems to have obtained comfort and strength from special revelations. Through the murky and confused darkness of life, Christ ministering angel sped to his bedside and standing beside him, encouraged him to be of good cheer. We must be encouraged that there is no storm that comes our way which does not brings God's angels to our side and to help us, even though we may not see their forms or hear their voice. The one condition and demand of an angel-help is that we belong to their Master and they work to protect us day and night. Therefore we must all be able to say: "Whose I am, and Whom I serve"
The Prayer of Faith.
In Act 27:24 - "Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand trial before Caesar; and God has graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you." The prayer of Faith is "granted." It signifies that Paul had asked and God had granted his prayer, and given him his request. The famous hymnal composer Miss Havergal went to stay with a family who not one of them believe Jesus Christ. On the first night of her stay she wrote the hymn "Take my life and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee." What a Promise to Claim!!! And during her short sojourn under that roof she won for her Lord the entire household. So we may claim that all who sail with us in the ship of our life shall become God's children.
The Courage of Faith is consistent with Commonsense.
Even though Paul had God's assurance, he felt that he must do what he could, as though all depended on his wisdom and sagacity. Faith ought not to make us act presumptuously or foolishly. Holy, calmness, and stillness rule in the heart of those whose minds is focused and stayed on God. In our lives, we are going to encounter many storms in our life before we anchor in the fair Grip of Haven of Eternity, but notice that in the heart of every cyclone there is a point of rest; and in the eye of the fiercest storm that sweeps our world there is always peace as we hide in the presence of the Almighty God as our Good Shepherd and protector in time of storms.
Lord help me to stay focus that by day and by night, in life and in death, may I ever be true to You, as the Lover of my Soul, my ceaseless Friend, my unchangeable Savior. Into Thy hands I commit my spirit!
AMEN.
