Matthew 11:28-30 - "Come unto Me; Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light."
Jesus in all His earthly life was always saying "Come Unto Me and Take my Yoke,"
meaning it is His desire to surely fulfill and to do His Father's Will.
This was the watchword and epitome of His mission and Life is ..."I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me (John 5:30) ."
So persuasive was this appeal, that many opted to leave their life's
trades and follow Him. The sons of Zebedee left their father and boat;
Andrew and Simon left their fishing nets; Matthew his finance job to
become His disciples.
So attractive was
Jesus invitation that women forsook their sinful lives and sin no more,
and men their ambitions, in order to become His humble friends and
followers. Saul the aggressive young Pharisee heard Jesus appeal and
abandoning everything that might lead to high honor, and respect of the
world success, counted in his highest glory to be co-worker of Christ in
redeeming a lost and sinful world. But choosing to follow Jesus and
become His associates requires total Commitment and Identity of Purpose
in life. Amos 3:3 - "Can two walk together except they be agreed?" for there can be no fellowship between light and darkness, or between the Christians souls and the unbelievers.
The Yoke means subsoil ploughing.
Saving
the souls of a lost world is no joke or child's play. Christ saw before
Him the hard surface of mankind's obstinacy, and the spirit of man that
had been caked over by long years of neglect and rebellion. Before
Salvation can be effected in our lives the subsoil has to be turned up,
and the thoughts of many hearts revealed (Jeremiah 17:9-10)
The Yoke means fellowship.
Jesus
Divine and human nature unified in feeding the five thousand; in
turning the water into wine; in the raising of Lazarus from the death.
There has never been any redeemed of any races either from cannibalism,
genocides, coercions to service for Christ, or a paralytic cleansed and
healed apart from the co-operation of Jesus Divine and Human natures.
Our Yoke-bearing anticipates and precedes the Harvest. So we plough the
soil in Hope, knowing that one day the Harvest will ripe, and One like
unto the Son of Man will stand before us and share with us the results
of our good harvest. What joy to be with Jesus in the "homes" that He
goes and prepares for us....
Amen
