THE DIMENSIONS OF OUR SPIRITUAL LIVES

Revelation 21:16 - "And the city lieth foursquare, the length, and the breadth, and the height of it are equal."

The dimension of a Cube is evidently a favorite unit of Hebrew measurement, and is still used in most mathematical calculations. It is used in the Bible to describe the most Holy of Holies as in a form of a cube, and so was the New Jerusalem, the Holy City which the Apostle John saw in a vision as "coming down from God of Heaven..." We are told of the length, the breath, the depth, and the height of the love of Jesus Christ which passed knowledge (Ephesian 3:18). This is a depiction of the measurement of every well God directed life. Our spiritual life must have length, meaning the reaching forth of the soul as it leaves the things that are behind and reaches forth to those that are before. All Christians must never be satisfied with what we have already attained, but reaching out and think of those things ahead that perfected us.

But in calculation the Length, there must also be the Breath. Our lives as Christians must reach out on to the right and on to the left and help those who are in needs. The Cross of Jesus Christ symbolizes unselfishness, and those Christians must claim to have been crucified with Christ must live, not to ourselves, but to Him who died for us and through Him for all He cares and loves. The world is full of lonely, weary, needed, and desolate lives, and Christ is waiting for us to come and be send if we are ready for His use as His vessels.

There must also a "Depth" to the "Breath." The well is deep and we must dwell deep! the Apostle says to be rooted, that is, "we must strike our roots into the subsoil, grounded firmly. We must have our foundations in the very depths of life hidden with Christ. From Jesus' life we can arise as foundations spring from the depths of the hills as running and living water. Spiritual tree roots need to spread as far underground as the branches spread above for lively spiritual photosynthesis for the entire body.

There must be Height. Our greatest anticipation and ideals should always be ascending to Heaven. We must fix our affections on things above, not on things on the earth. "Let us by thought and prayer thither ascend and dwell where Christ sits on the right hand of God (Colossians 3:1-4)."

Heavenly Father we ask you to sanctify our body and soul, our thoughts and intentions, our words and actions; let our bodies  be a servant of our spirits, and both body and spirit serve Jesus; that doing all things for Thy glory here, we may be partaker of Thy glory hereafter, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

AMEN.
